Hello and welcome! My name is Danielle Cook, owner of Ethan's Sweet Treasures. I am so happy that you have decided to support me along this awesome journey. I have always LOVED scented candles. It's just something about lighting a good smelling candle in my home! It always brings an instant smile to my face, and when the aroma fills the room I am met with a sense of COMFORT and PEACE.
I have always had the desire to make my own candles, yes I love them that much. After encouragement from my husband, Eric Cook, I made my way to our local craft store and purchased a candle making kit in 2010. I made my first candle! YAY! But, I was not pleased with how my candle turned out. The quality was terrible, the soot was horrible, and there was absolutely no scent coming from the fragrance. So, determined NOT to give up on making my own quality candles, I began researching.
In the process of my research, I learned some interesting facts that lead me to my discovery of SOY CANDLES. I learned about the advantages of soy wax, and I was sold immediately. I knew that I wanted to make soy candles in addition to paraffin candles. I researched different candle supply companies and read a ton of articles on how to make soy candles. After 2 years of researching, I was ready to order supplies and give candle making another try.
In 2012, I made my first soy candle and it turned out GREAT! I was so happy, but there were still improvements that needed to be made. I tried different formulas, wicks, and fragrance oils until I finally came up with the perfect wax formulation that resulted in a candle that burned all the way to the bottom without leaving any wax on the jar, burned will little to no soot from the wick, and burned with amazing cold and hot throw! I started making candles for myself, family and friends with positive feedback from EVERYONE! So, I decided that I would turn my hobby into a BUSINESS!
Joy and Sorrow
In July 2012, I found out that I was pregnant with my first child! My husband and I were so happy. We were still newly-weds, married September 10, 2011, and we were ready to start our own family. The 2nd week in October 2012, we went to the doctor for my check-up and to find out the gender of our baby. The tech started the ultrasound and told us that we were having a BOY! Yay! (we thought we were having a boy and we were correct!) So the tech continues with the exam, checking to make sure everything was okay with our bundle of JOY. Everything was good until the end. An eerie silence filled the room as the tech had a very concerned look on her face, but she was not saying anything. She proceeded to tell us that she saw a problem with our son's head. We had to wait for my doctor to come in to verify what she thought she saw. My doctor sent me to a specialist the next day to confirm as well. After visiting the specialist, we were given the news that we were dreading, there was a problem with our son's development. He was diagnosed with Anencephaly. I was 20 weeks pregnant. The result was fatal.
The Silver Lining
We named our little angel Ethan Terrell Cook (Terrell is my husband's middle name). I lost my drive for life following the loss of my son. But with the support of my family, close friends, and most importantly my loving husband, I was able to love life again. I started back doing the things that I loved, which included candle making. I knew that I wanted to name my business after my son in honor of his memory. After taking in consideration suggestions from my line sisters of my sorority, ETHAN'S SWEET TREASURES was born. And that is why this business and the name is so SPECIAL and IMPORTANT to me. I am more determined now than ever because I want my business to be a SUCCESS in memory of my son.
I am so grateful for the vision GOD gave me to start my own business. I hope that my products bring you and your family as much JOY, PEACE, and SERENTIY as they have brought to mine.
